Minutes was started as a simple screen recording tool that can be triggered from within Slack, but from there we wanted to solve a bigger problem of tiring, and unending meetings by replacing them with asynchronous communication. We did this by using voice and video messages to replicate meetings asynchronously. Our goal was to make life easier for people working remotely by helping them reduce the number of meetings they have to sit in.
We gave an early version to our friends and colleagues and iterated the product with a bunch of feedback. And in July of 2023, we had a good launch on ProductHunt and started working with users who signed up to make the product better. But as time passed, despite our best efforts, it became clear that Minutes wasn't achieving the impact we had envisioned.
The decision to shut down was not an easy one. We've spent countless hours refining the product, talking to users, and iterating based on their feedback. We were strong believers in async from day one and wanted to make this work at all costs. However, as we continued to engage with our users and understand the market more, we've realised the friction teams have in transitioning to a new communication platform particularly something that is asynchronous. This with other contributing reasons have led us to take the difficult decision of shutting down.
We learned a lot from this journey — about the market, about our users, and about ourselves as founders. We intend to use this to better the next thing we work on. To those who supported us along the way — our users, our community, and everyone who believed in what we were building — we want to say thank you! Your feedback, encouragement, and trust in us made this journey worthwhile, even if the outcome wasn't what we had originally hoped for.
Thank you to everyone who tried out Minutes and became a part of our journey!
